How to Install a new HMI Touchscreen

Removal and replacement of the screen itself is pretty straightforward.  There are three objectives involved in this procedure:

  1. Update HMI display time and date
  2. Enable the USB port so the HMI display will recognize the port when downloading software and programs
  3. Upload HMI software specific to the machine you are working on

Tools Needed:

  • 3mm, 4mm Allen Keys
  • #1 Crosspoint Screwdriver
  • 16GB USB Drive

Remove and replace the old screen with the new one paying particular attention to wire connection points on the terminal strip on the back of the HMI screen.

After installing the new screen and making the electrical connections, you will need to update the date/time and configure the IP address and Subnet mask in the System settings so the new display will accept (recognize) the USB port.  This will be necessary in order to upload or change HMI software versions and programs.

1. To update Time/Date on display:

Once the screen has powered up, you will need to update the date and time so production information will be displayed accurately.

  1. Access System settings by touching the arrow pointing left on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Next, type in the password: “111111” (one 6 times).
  2. Next, touch the Prev or Next button to tab over to the Time/Date tab.
  3. Use the arrow up or arrow down buttons to change the time and date (time is displayed in military time).
  4. Touch Apply to save and OK to exit from the System settings menu.

2. To enable the USB port:

  1. Access System settings by touching the arrow pointing left on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Next, type in the password: “111111” (one 6 times).
  2. Next, touch the Prev or Next button to tab over to the LAN 1 tab.
  3. Select “IP address get from below”.
  4. Input the IP address and Subnet mask as shown in the picture below.
  5. Touch Apply to save and OK to exit from the System settings menu.

The new HMI touchscreen will now recognize the USB port.

3. To upload HMI Software:

You may first need to contact the factory for the correct HMI screen software version.  Roel will email the link to a dropbox that contains a Zipped file that you will have to unzip before saving to a USB drive. If Roel sends multiple files, they need to be combined into one Parent file on the USB drive.

  1. Copy the folder you received onto a USB drive with a capacity of 16GB or less

  2. Insert USB drive into the USB port close to the touch screen

3. Wait for the following to appear on the screen

4. Press DOWNLOAD

5. When the keyboard appears, check all three checkmarks

6. Enter 111111 on keyboard and then RETURN

7.  A directory screen will appear

8.  Press + next to usbdisk to expand the folder
9. Repeat until you see the mt800ie folder
10. Press on parent folder of mt800ie to highlight the folder (usually disk_a_1 folder)
11. Press OK. The software will download and screen will reboot. Note that machine settings and program settings won't show until the screen is connected to the PLC.

Note: IF the unit does not reboot, repeat steps 1 through 7, highlight (press) the mt8000ie folder, press OK.
